I'm checking out of my first hostel stay and I have had a great time so far in the 28 hours I've been on my trip. I will say I'm already feeling sleep deprived. I will update you all on what I have been up to since Thursday.

Party Time

After I finished with my finals, I had a halloween party in May at my house for a going away celebration. It ended up being mostly work people but some other people showed up as well. My friend Jeff bartended and won the sexiest male costume prize. Lisa won the sexiest female costume but she unfortunately didn't know how to use her prize... think sex and batteries. I was a high school wrestler and had a lot of fun until about 5AM until I finally crashed. After all I had to get up at 6:30AM :).

Interesting Person of the Day

When I finally got on my frist Amtrak trek which lasted about 9 hours, I talked to a lady next to me about her 4 kids, bald eagles, our jobs, traveling, and transportation. She had invited me to sit next to her and showed me how to work my chair! Her kids are 29, 28, 22, and 21, all of which she raised with her father supporting her on a farm. She went to college at age 36 and now manages 17 counties transit budgets. She works with highways but doesnt like driving on them (hence Amtrak). Her brother lives "an alternative lifestyle" (he's gay); he and his partner have had AIDS for 24 years. They live in a farmhouse in Madison. I eventually passed out and she had left by the time I woke up.

Peculiar Experience

The Train. Now I'm not complaining just yet; I'm just trying to learn the rules. You can't sit downstairs without a special ticket. Once you find a sport upstairs, you put your ticket up to show the seat is taken. The chair can lean back, has a footstool and legrest you can pull out. It also has a tray to use like the airlines but this is like airplane 1st class but with better views. When someone has 2 people in their party, the train staff can ask you to move to another seat (they asked me). They announce dining car reservations if you don't show. I checked out the observation room back two train cars and called my mom when I was going through Milwaukee. I convienently recieved 3 more phone calls during this time: Dad, Kariayne who I was meeting up with, and some girl who called the wrong Bryan and informed me I was her orientation leader. For the remainder of the ride, I sat next to a strange man who played "boo" with the little girl behind him.

I'll go "Down Under" any day

Once Kariayne and I arrived by train to our hostel and checked in, we went to the grocery store and bought vodka and things to make stir fry. Kariayne, my ex-girlfriend from Swift Nature Camp 2005, was cooking next to 3 Austrailian men. They have been traveling around the world, mainly the Americas, for 3 months and arn't done yet. Since there was a shortage of cooking utinsels and our burner sucked, we were interacting with them through sharing items and stories. Kariayne and I were amazed at how good our food turned out seeing that we weren't paying attention to our food. These guys were HOT. Them: "So mate, what's in Minneapolis?" Us: "Uh huh..." Them: "What are you mates doing in Chicago then?" Us: "....Uh huh...." *drool*. I turned my flash off and took a picture of one doing the dishes. Who needs a face shot when you have a nice butt to look at?

Kariayne and I decided to take a 30 minute power nap before we went out. At 12:07AM we woke up, freaked out, threw on clothes, called our friends, and jumped in a cab (which we decided to do since it was a 30 minute walk). I called Steve, another camp counselor we were supposed to meet up with, and he told me "Don't go to Roscoes. It's full of Syphillis."; Steve decided not to come. So.... once we got to Boystown we met up with our friends at Roscoes, LOL. We met up with "Jim" who likes to perform drag but is a male tonight; he also has the "Queen Bee" vibe and we ended up treating him like Regina from Mean Girls. Also, Tony who is a very cute Mexican-American met up with us. Once that bar closed, we went to Hydrate where you felt like you were tweeking from the lights and everyone looked naked and tweeked out because they were. This is where I figured out Tony stuffs his pecstorals to look more muscular. Wow. At least he drove us home and was nice otherwise!

In the morning, Kariayne and I got ready, had breakfast and she took off. I'm now by myself on the free computers, killing time until my train at 9PM. Let me know what you guys think of my journals; SERIOUSLY so I can know at the beginning to improve. See you in Toronto.
