Connemara National Park
Entry 15 of 84 | show all | print this entry |
Having done half the Connamerra drive the day before (looking for a place to stay) we had a bit of extra time on our hands. So we completed the ring we were planning to do, and then doubled back through the middle to see a bit more. Connamerra national park has two distinct landscapes to it. The south is barren, lake dotted landscape (like we drove thru last night), the north is more mountainous - so a drive down the middle got the best of both. We thought it might be nice to keep with the barren landscape theme and head for a peninsula a little above Connamerra, but turns out that the Achill sound and peninsula brings a new meaning to barren landscape - unfortunately it wasn't the same. Quite boring really. Didn't linger there very long, and decided to head for Sligo to have a look. It all went downhill from there, we thought we would take the scenic road - nup boring road, Sligo didn't have a good feel to it, too much traffic and roadworks to be nice, wanted to check out the famous tombs and dolmen in the area, but that was shut for the winter. We decided to just gun it for Enniskillen. That wasn't the best choice either!! The road was shocking to get there, and the tourist office directed us to the hardest to find B&B EVER!! And when we did finally find it, the lady seemed shocked that we were asking her for a room!! Der she is the B&B!! Had a good Pub meal though!
