Mont Saint-Michel (Mount Saint Michael) is definitely much, much more than a small rocky tidal island with an intricate maize of houses topped by a majestic cathedral from where one can see for ever. Right at the mouth of the Couesnon River Le Mont is definitely worth a special trip. Even if you miss its background or larger periphery - you will not even notice that your trip lacked anything.
We stayed at a Gue de Bouvoirs hotel and camping all in one, a most hospitable, ideally located, clean, lively and inexpensive establishment. Irina hired horses and took several tours riding, we visited the Mont daily, enjoyed long summer evening by the river with manicured banks and conveniently positioned comfortable tables for picnics. After that first visit I have been again and again and sometimes, when accommodation was available, resided in the Gue de Bouvoirs although it becomes "complet" relatively early, by 4-5 p.m.
