Kinshasa, Zaire with Mobutu Sese Seko, our friend!

We were pro-Patrice Lumumba and anti Chombe, anti Mobutu, assassins and corrupt vultures of one of the richest, resource-wise, countries of Africa. the realities of the Non-alignement demanded that this Mobutu be treated as a friend. We did not know a thing about his kind of government or about his twisted personality. before alighting the aircraft somebody from the entourage of minister Minic tactfully warned us that comments end here, that we need behave ourselves, that we shall Interconti-Kinshasa as our hotel and then the next day will have a garden party with the ambassador, that an excursion to the cataracts was pre-arranged, that we shall have a guided tour around town, a shopping time at the bazaar and enough time to take advantage of the swimming pool of the Interconti.
That's it. Off you go.
And we did.
