We were whisked from the airport directly to the Hilton and requested to have a quick shower, dress up and be down in the lobby within 45 minutes for dinner with some big shots. John Updike is right although I have sensed, this was before I have read his Rabbit, Run I think, that the inclination to higher standards instantly dissolves in the bloodstream of the human being. Such a comfort after all the shabby rooms of provincial towns around Macedonia!
