Bed and Breakfast on the Park

I woke up early (7:00 am) and the boys slept in until it was time to eat breakfast at 9 am. I woke them up as I headed up to breakfast (the smells emanating from the kitchen had me starving even more as I reached the top of the steps.) As I entered the dining room, it was formally decorated with place settings for 8.  The boys hurried upstairs to join me for breakfast.  Breakfast consisted of stuffed french toast with pecans and apples, maple syrup, honey, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit compote, bacon, orange juice, tea, and coffee. We ate a leisurely breakfast, with the host of the B&B, Linda and the other guest that were staying there.  It was simply delightful.

We walked to Sarah's apartment to meet her and Avi for a full day of sightseeing in NYC.  We decided to go to Eataly, Chelsea Market, a movie (Bridesmaids), Time Square, walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, and to top it all off  we ate at the Chip Shop.  Eataly is Mario Batali's brain child. This place was great! It was filled with a deli, meat shop, fromage shop, every different kinds of pasta, sauces, etc.. - basically everything Italian!  Plus there are restaurants.  We ate at Birreria; but while we waited for a table there, we went to the roof top and had a beer (Evan had gingerale) while we waited.  It was nice and relaxing (hardly anyone was up there, it was a nice change from the hustle and bussle). We had a lovely lunch at Birreria's  - the food was excellent.  On this trip we rarely had bad food. Wonder how much weight I've gained?  After a filling lunch, off we went again. First stop was Chelsea Market.

This was literally a cool market - it was indoors with A/C. Woo-hoo! Many different shops, small eateries, etc. Google has 3 floors of the building, and MLB.com, too(our favorite!) We stopped at People Pops to get cooled down (it was over 90 degrees plus humidity! I will never complain again about the desert heat!).  People pops was made with organic and sustainable food. The popsicles came in unique flavors.  I had the Strawberry with Tarragon.  Evan had a shaved ice. They had a large block of ice that they shaved the ice from....cool!  Then it was off to see a movie - we were trying to think of ways to stay cool on a hot day in NYC.  We went to see Bridesmaids and it was a cute, funny romantic comedy (a chick flic). I even heard the boys chuckle during the movie.  After a nice cool down, we rode the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge.

We walked from City Hall across the bridge to Brooklyn.  It was a mile and 1/3, I do believe.  Greg was taking his time as he was shooting loads of photos.  It was just getting to be dusk, so it was a  nice time to do this type of walking.  I don't  think any of us was too hot. Then, it was off to dinner at the Chip Shop.

I saw the Chip Shop on one of the Travel Channel shows and wanted to try it the next time we went to Brooklyn. It is owned by an English gentlemen who wanted to have a bit of home near him, so he opened up this place.  Avi and I had the Fish and Chips - which was superb! Sarah and Evan had the Chicken fingers and Chips - which they both said was very good. Greg had the sheppards pie, which he said was excellent! For dessert the six of us split a deep fried Twinkie and a double fried hostess cherry pie.  YUMMO!

We really enjoyed our time we spent with Sarah and Avi.  It is too bad that every time we come for a visit, we cram so much site seeing in.  The good side to it is that we definitely burned a lot of calories walking on this day!

It is back home, tomorrow.  It is a travel day, so this will be my last blog.  During this entire trip, we have been very fortunate to stay at some lovely places, eat some fantastic food, meet a lot of wonderful people, and enjoyed all of the sites that we went to...  I/we are very blessed to be able to take this type of trip.
