Why does it seem offensive that they have hamburgers, French fries and hot dogs? I don't know. It's just not right to eat such garbage in such a beautiful place. We opt for salad and grilled chicken. Gotta eat light, ya know!
Even though the day looks overcast, I'm hoping that the sun will make an appearance soon so we can catch a few rays. In the meantime, we decide to walk off our "brunch", so we venture to parts as of yet unexplored by us. We're surprised to find a little shopping village just on the other side of the area where our room is located. With colorful stucco buildings of yellow, pink, blue and green, the area is a square with shops lining the perimeter, a large stage at one end, and a courtyard in the middle lined with plastic garden chairs. The place could easily seat 200 people, and Michael remarks that this would be a great spot for a jazz concert at some point. We'll have to come back later to find out if the place comes alive by night.
Until then, we visit the shops and check out their wares--jewelry, T-shirts, snacks, spices, coffee and the like. None of the dozen or so shops sells exactly the same thing. That's by design, I'm sure.
Suddenly, we hear hear music. "Where's that coming from?" I ask. We follow the smooth jazz sounds clear across the grounds near the lobby and come upon a 3-piece jazz ensemble that could easily rival the group, Pieces of a Dream. We stroll up to the open air bar out on the terrace over looking the swimming pool and order margaritas (what's wrong with this picture--margaritas in Jamaica?), snag an empty table and join the rest of the crowd as we tap our feet to the music. These guys are pretty good Michael said. It feels like we're back in San Diego hanging out at Humphrey's By the Bay. And just as it's getting really good, the band decides to take a break.
By now, we figure we'd better head back to the room to prepare for dinner. No shorts allowed at Don Pablo, but we're not about to dress up because this ain't one of those kinds of trips. We're just chillin', remember.
