December 24, 2005: We arrived in Amman, Jordan after a half day of travel from Cairo, Egypt. It was nice to sleep in this morning and then lounge around the Cairo Marriott to enjoy it one last time before departing. Sipping tea in the outdoor café, we were able to appreciate the diversity of people who were staying at the hotel for various reasons - business, leisure, or like us, a trip of a lifetime.     That last sip of tea marked the end of our time there, so we gathered our things and made our way to the shuttle bus headed for the Cairo International Airport. As we boarded the bus, the skies turned gray and the wind suddenly picked up, almost as if the city was as sad to see us leave as we were to leave it.

We arrived at the airport about three hours before our flight was scheduled to depart because we were traveling to another country. But the time flew by, and before we knew it we were on the airplane for our short flight to Amman, Jordan. We were told to expect colder weather in Jordan since it is further north, and Amman at a high elevation. And as we arrived in this new city (well, it's new to us), we found that the warnings were correct.

Christmas Eve in Amman greeted us with cold and rain. A rainy night in Jordan might have been a disappointment to some tourists, but for us travelers it simply meant a good nights sleep in anticipation of what Christmas day would bring.

So now we settle into our room at the Regency Palace Hotel in downtown Amman after enjoying a warm dinner. Tomorrow is Christmas Day and, while we miss being with our families to enjoy our traditions, we are blessed to be here to share the holiday together.
