Suzy and Jonathan's Wedding!!!
Trip Start Aug 01, 2005

We are here to celebrate Suzy and Jonathan's wedding!
While driving along Hwy 280 it feels weird. It hasn't been so long since we left but it is strange to be here as a tourist. We both feel a bit sad and overwhelmed.
But it's also great to be back.
After we rest a bit Suzy and Jonathan get home in the evening
After a good night, Mari and Maryam pick Suzy and I up at the house, but first we have some champagne and strawberries! We took off for Sonoma and met with Charlotte, Viv, Becky, and Ali. We had a great picnic in the park (Thank you Viv!) and then checked into our hotel. Then we got some bikes and took off on a winery tour. Even Ali got on a bike! We were all very impressed! The winery tour stopped at Ravenswood where we met Bob. Bob was so happy to see all these girls that we got the exclusive tour which took so long that we didn't get to see any other winery. But it was great fun. We decided to bike some more and even got lost a bit since the road was closed.
Back at the hotle Suzy had to go through the game of the perfect wife. It included among other things being smeared with honey and salt, running around the hot tub in a towel and dressing up for dinner. I have to say, the purple furry hat looks great on you Suzy! We went for a fun dinner in town and then had some more drinks at the hotel. Next morning we took off to San francisco and had a brunch at our favorite place on Haight Street. then we surprised her with a manicure and pedicure. It was a lot of fun!
After we were back in San Jose we did the last preparations for the wedding. On friday there was a really cool rehearsal dinner next door at their neighbor's Miranda and Diana's beautiful victorian house. And one more funny game to prepare them for married life
And then came the big day! On saturday morning we went to a beautiful spa and Joan, Becky, Astrid, me and of course our beautiful bride got a great hair style. It's really nice to be pampered! Thank you Joan for treating us! Then we rushed to the Picchetti Winery where the wedding was to take place. It is a beautiful winery in the Santa cruz mountains west of SJ overlooking the Santa Clara valley. Really beautiful. It is an old farm with a barn and several other building. I really recommend it to anybody getting married!
I helped Suzy dress and lace her sparkly dress. She was so beautiful! Viv helped me and did my makeup. As always she did a great job at embellishing me (until the first tears started, but I was pretty good this time). Then it started! I got a fall colored bouquet with beautiful roses and clal lilies and waited my turn to walk down the aisle. Then it was Suzy's turn. She was stunning and Jonathan certainly thought so too! The ceremony was really touching and beautiful. The pastor was fun and personal and everybody got very emotional.
Congrstulations! We are both so happy for you two!
After the ceremony we helped and took part in the photo shoot. It was fun when Seth tried to lure a peacock into the photo by feeding it bread.
The dinner was somptuous with authentic southern food. The wine was great too, especially the Zin! We had a few speeches and I had the honor of telling how they met. I also told the story of our house on 8th Street, nicknamed the International House of Fruitcackes. All fruitcackes said something and it was really fun. Miranda and Diana also did the funniest speeches!
Then came the dancing: a kentucky Waltz, Yeeeha! They were really cuter together. This was followed by blue grass music and I got to learn how to do real mountain clogging from Noth carolina. Jonathan's dad is a great dancer so it was fun to watch and try to imitate him as well as I could. Seth's attempt almost ended with his shoe on Jonathan's face, a bit less lucky...
We danced until the end of the evening, then moved to the Dive bar in downtown SJ. After a while we went to their hotel suite and a really cool hotel employee emptied the kitchen for us hungry partiers. it was really a great wedding!
Next morning we had brunch with everybody then went back to their house. We watched them open some of their gifts then we took off to see some other people.
We were lucky that Frank had a BBQ that day so we could see Julian, Matt, Renalie and some other friends. We then drove to Benicia to see Darlia and Joseph. It was great but again hard to see everybody.
On Monday and Tuesday we mostly got ready for our trip and saw some more friends accross the Bay. A big hug to Mark and Winny and their families. We are definitely thinking about you.
And then we took off to Bangkok...
