FlightS and first impressions of Lima

It happened!!!!!!!!!!!
This time it's real! After about 47 hours spent in various airports, including Atlanta, Niamey, Cairo, Buenos Aires and San Salvador (ok, I´m exaggerating a bit, but it sure felt like it), we arrived in Lima at 8pm on Monday. Because of my previous experiences (Caroline), I was expecting sweltering heat, street vendors all the way into the airport, and goats and chicken on the streets. But it was nothing like it. We talked to the tourist office at the airport and they arranged for transportation and a hotel for us, and before we even knew it, we were in a nice room with TV and a warm shower! Total luxury! I have to admit that the warm shower is nice since temperatures drop to the low 50's at night!
We are actually staying in Miraflores, a little town south of Lima. After checking in we walked around the streets for a while and had our first ceviche and roasted chicken. Considering that about 97% of restaurants seem to serve roasted chicken, I have a feeling we haven't seen roasted chicken for the last time this month... After a well deserved night we began exploring Lima. We took a cab into downtown and visited the main piazzas, the cathedral, some other churches and just enjoyed the free time hanging around (no more packing!). We are still trying to figure out what the best way is to cross the crazy streets and a ride in a cab (one of these mini daewoos) feels very much like a video game, except that it's for real!
That's the first impressions, check in for more later...

Hola mis queridos amigos!
Que tal? Only one entry and three photos and I'm insanely jealous already. It looks and sounds as if you are off to a wonderful start. The night you left was hard for us but we are so excited that we get to share it with you. Keep the photos and travel logs coming!
Hasta luego,
Jonathan

Adelante aventura!!! (reply) Aug 3, 2005 05:27 EST by monsieurpolo
You did it. you are now in the twilight zone for over 6 months!!I am a bit jealous. The good thing is that your stories revive mine! It was already 3 years ago that I was in Lima but it now feels like yesterday (almost).
Don't forget to eat 'couille' (phonetic spelling here ;) It is a delicacy in Peru, together with Pisco sour.
Be careful about fake peruvian bills. They are everywher... show all
