Wonders of Capri, Italy ("The Azure Island")

Located off the Sorrentine Peninsula in the crystal-blue Mediterranean Sea, the 2 x 4 mile island of Capri has stood as a paradisiacal attraction since Roman times. Capri is synonymous with world-class boutiques and fine dining. Almost everything on this island is imported, so the value of the goods tend to reflect the high-end clientele willing to spend at any cost.

Upon landing at the Marina Grande or Large Harbor after a 1-hour hydrofoil ride from Naples, I immediately understood why Roman emperors would come here on vacation more than 2000 years ago. The juxtaposition of white-washed villas perched dramatically on rocky cliffs and the vast blue sea was an idyllic sight to behold. Despite the exaggerated number of tourists on the island, I still felt a quiet charm pulsating in the small alleys decked with summer flowers. The view of Naples and the wide Mediterranean Sea from Mount Solaro was also spectacular! Any visit to Naples would be incomplete without a stopover on this island.
