Moien (Hello in Luxembourgish) and greetings from the land of the medieval castles and chateaus,
It is very difficult to type with a German keyboard, so our apologies in advance for the awful spelling and the non=existance of the punctuations.
Cycling in Holland and Northern Belgium had been a breeze but things changed very quickly when we got to Southern Belgium. Gone are the 100 km days (yep, it is kilometer and celcius now), welcome crawling up the 7 or 8 percent ascents at about 6 km an hour. However, noticing the chance in the scenery, the climate, the history and the culture as we crawled along were well worth the effort. Because we move so slowly and camp outdoors or stay with host families, we feel like we get a true taste of the places that we visit.
Staying with host families, eating with them, cooking with them, getting tipsy on wonderful Belgium beer with them has made a big difference in our trip. As I write this Karin, our host in Luxembourg is cooking us a mouth dripping vegetarian meal while one of her four dogs is sleeping by my feet. Our bedroom has an amazing view of the chateau of Larochette on the top of the hill. In the afternoons we take the dogs for a long walk wih Karin. In the 2 or 3 days that we spend with the host families we become a part of that family. They give us lots of advice, good ole home cooked meals, maps and good wishes.  They tell us their travels and give us their home keys. Them being travelers themselves, there is an unwritten rule of trust that I thought belonged to a long gone world. I can't even begin to tell you how much hope that this trust gives us.
Spring is in the air and every animal you can imagine is mating along the road as we ride our bikes. Bryan is taking video of every one of them. We have a full collection of animal love on tape.
We will explore Luxembourg city tomorrow and then start making our way to France where we will meet Gizem's mom and possibly two other friends.
Lots of love from Luxo,
Gizem and Bryan
