Good Bye Seattle!!!

Leaving Seattle ... to FOLLOW THE WIND and kite around the world!

Well... you only live once! And now is the time to get out there and chase the dream! Mariela and I will be leaving Seattle next week (1st week of October) to go and live this dream and chase the wind wherever it will be around the world. I thought about this for a long time and finally gave my notice at work. I had a great job and good career at Microsoft but there was always this urge inside of me to go and leave, hit the road and see where it will take us, get up and experience a new adventure and the unknown. Now I have also found someone incredible who will do it with me and kite as well and support the addiction to water and wind.

I learned to kite in May 2005 and it has literally changed my life. I remember when I bought my van from Dave (the original Vanman in the Gorge) and he said to me - "Are you sure you want to buy this? That van (and kiting) is going to change your life." Oh yeah ... it sure did!

Mariela and I, we'll be leaving around the 1st week of October. We'll be moving out of our apartment, sell pretty much most things, and are getting the van ready for a long road trip. Our first destination will be Corpus Christi and South Padre Island. We don't have an exact route yet and are pretty flexible so we'll either drive down the magnificent West Coast and hit some kiting spots along the way or we'll head straight to Texas and kite whatever body of water looks like it's begging for a session . In December / January we'll spend time in Austria with family and do some snowkiting in the Alps. After that we'll either stay in Europe hopping from country to country, maybe head back to Central America and kite the volcanic lakes of Guatemala or the country's black sand beaches, then maybe travel to windy South America (Brazil ), maybe go back to the Gorge for the summer or hit the Gold Coast of Australia and beautiful New Zealand. Maybe we'll get stuck in a place we love and will never make it around the world. Who knows ... it's time to just do it!

With so many people here in Seattle and the Gorge that have become our friends it's time to celebrate and say good bye and hopefully "see you soon". We'd like to get together with you on Saturday, Sept. 30th, between 8:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Wilde Rover Irish Pub & Restaurant in Kirkland. This is a cool place with nice atmosphere that usually has some live band playing at night. There's also plenty of parking within walking distance. We have a section reserved in the back so come on down for some beer. It's going to be like a kite-social for everyone who wants to hang out with other kiters. To make sure you show up and have a good time 10 pitchers (depending on how many people are here) will be on us and will be on the table by 8:15 p.m. So if you're thirsty ... we'll see you there! Around midnight we'll head over to Capitol Hill's night club "Neighbors" for some wild dancing with whoever is still up for it. We're sure it'll be a lot of fun!

Let us know if you think you're coming or simply show up.

Kite on! Go Big! Live 2 Kite!

Ciao!
Mariela & Philipp

My new amp is to yearn for sun, fun and a fancy-free existence while living to the beat of nature's rhythms. To me, this means being blown by the wind, getting lots of lift, chasing wahinis and catching waves in the big mama. The free-flowing lifestyle of searching for the endless summer is what now drives my steamship through life."
