We Said:

A flight from Santiago over the Andes brought us to Buenos Aires. The next morning we headed south to the resort town of Mar del Plata. We will be going back to Buenos Aires at the end of our journey around South America, but we figured we'd like to see a bit more of Argentina than just the big city. Our bus ride took us through flat countryside dotted with farms and pastures. Actually, it was a dead ringer for much of the US Midwest, complete with the intermittent huge fiberglass dairy cow sculptures, and even an occasional John Deere billboard alongside the highway!

In the summer, Mar del Plata is a bustling town filled with tourists attracted to the beaches. Unfortunately for us, being the southern hemisphere, summer is not in full swing until around December. Thankfully the town has a number of very good restaurants so our time spent shivering walking along the deserted beaches was tempered by some awesome meals.

So back to Buenos Aires tomorrow for an overnight stay, then off to Uruguay.

sounds like you are having fun.....have you been to the part of Argentina where you can stay with a family and ride horses on their ranch? Let me know if you find a good place!
