After rather uneventful 15-hour drive from New Jersey to Georgia we settled in with Katie's parents and began our job for the next year, traveler (not tourist!!!) Katie's mother was a great tour guide for our jaunts around Atlanta. Over a few days time we visited Katie's alma mater, UGA in Athens, toured the Carter Presidential Library and saw the spectacular new Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium was absolutely magnificent!

On Independence Day we flew the eleven hours to Maui to meet up with my side of the family and celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary. We've been in Maui now for five days. It couldn't be any nicer! We are all staying in a really swank hotel, The Grand Wailea Resort. It has a stunning beach, lush grounds, and unbelievable frozen tropical drinks (which Katie keeps ordering). We have a few more days to lounge here in paradise before heading back to Atlanta before starting the actual RTW (round-the-world) adventure on July 15.

A question many people asked us is why after flying all the way to Maui are we going back to Atlanta, then on to Europe. Why not just continue west from Hawaii to go into Asia? Leave it to say that weather conditions, timing, economics, and routing issues all made our current plan a more feasible option. Plus remember that time is not a significant concern for us at this point. We don't have to be back at work for another 400 days!

So the next time you hear from us we will be in Europe or Africa and the journey will be underway.
