Then there was the bridge. With no notice, a bridge over a river in the country north of Minneapolis was closed for construction. I approached the bridge anyway thinking I might be able to cross as I am on a bike, but alas, the bridge was gone. Just, gone. Looked to have been a large bridge as well.
Fun fact, all heavy machinery is left unlocked when no construction workers are present
The Bunkhouse is world renown as one of the premier bike hostels in the world. The proprietor, Donn Olson turned one of his barns into a free cyclist lodge complete with TV, sofas, bedrooms, showers, kitchenette, and food for very, very cheap. I share the bunkhouse this evening with three older people, all of whom are heading east as well, but at a bit slower pace. They let me take photos of their maps through Michigan, however, for which I am incredibly grateful.
I must confess that since this trip began, I have fantasized about something. I had a very relaxing moment watching a live performance of the Doors on Marlene and Kevin's incredible couch in Tacoma before I left. I have often thought about that time on the road, and have wanted nothing more than to sit on a couch and watch TV. Tonight is my first night with that opportunity, and so I sit here watching a 70's Batman movie with a frozen pizza and some beers. Tonight is a good night.
