We started our descent in the forest (which wasn't easy!) new paths had to be machete clear and everyone struggled (Mandy’s butt was covered in mud from many falls – mine was clean?) After just over an hours trek we found ourselves almost accidentally surrounded by a family of 19 gorillas (inc two silverbacks!) We all had to stay calm, low, make no eye contact and whisper when we had to talk which was difficult because Mandy was overwhelmed and bawled her eyes out! We were told that this family was not known for 'charging’ but two teenagers weren’t that happy that we were there – they punched the ground and tore thick branches down like they were twigs! No fatalities though. We spent an hour with them, watching them play and eat, eat and eat! The silverbacks were around 350kilos of pure muscle and we have a video of one walking just in front of us (bit wobbly footage as Glenn crapped himself!) Unfortunately the hour seemed like 5 minutes and we (Mandy) proceeded to trek (labour) up the mountain. An amazing experience never to be forgotten…..
