Bonito is on the edge of the Panatal. We are here to go swimming. In the reserve there is the Rio Plata, Silver River and they run  snorkelling  trips.  To go swimming in the river you have to be clean. No suntan cream, no insect repellant anad take a good long shower before you enter the water. This is to keep the river clean and fish friendly.

The water is so clear and the fish large and friendly.

The swimming was easy as we travelled with the current it was more like drifting than swimming. The only tricky bit was keeping your feet off the bottom as we were not supposed to distrube the sand, so floating was the key.

The fish were abundant. The large black ones moved about on their own, the golden ones tended to be in schoals.

The most exciting part was swimming the rapids, small one only. We had to exit the river at one point to make a short tek around rapids caused by the narrowing of the water course. We got back in just above a short water chute which was great fun with our guide making sure we all safely negociated the turn by giving us each a healthy push in the right direction. We all made it with no scraps some other groups were not so lucky.

At the end we had time for some free swimming and once out of the wet suit the water seemed much colder and the swimming more difficult!
