HCMC to Phnom Penh by airconditioned bus the easy way to travel the bus team even fill in all the form etc. for you - simple as that.

We travelled on NH1 all the way but did take a ferry across the Mekong - no bridge.  The road is raised above the land level as evertwhere is pretty well flooded - a really high water table - the road is lined with ponds and small lakes which are cover in water lillies. Houses are all on stilts or built on raised platforms.

Phnom Penh has retained a number of the colonial style buidings but large parts of the city have been rebuilt. Really well run and clean compared to a number of other places we have visited but much more expensive than Vietnam. Wide open roads and little traffic congestion make this town a joy. The tuk tuks here are articulated motorbikes and great fun as always - definately my fovouite way to travel. The Palaces and Pagodas are quite different, rather more restrained than the Hindu Temples.

The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda were beautiful to visit especially as I managed to walk on a few of the silver floor tiles (most were hidden under thick carpets).

Christmas morning started with a dose of culture at the National Museum to see the originals that have been removed from Angkor for save keeping.

Then back to the hostel to help with the food preparation - I never want to see a green bean again.

The menu was:

Prawn and Avocado Salad, BBQ Chicken, green beans, coldslaw and potatoes followed by Cake and Ice cream.

Not bad considering it was cooked on 2 gas burners and 6 stone bbqs.
