Ive included a picture of our new hosts: Con and Jerry.
So today we rejoined the fleet and moved on to New Frontier. We got to the vessel by 1130 and moved into our cabin. It was the same one we had on Adventure so its a familiar place. At first, it felt like we could hardly get our gear in place due to the silver and china serving pieces stowed in some of the cuddies, but with a little work, we fit in.
In the afternoon, we got a full vessel briefing from Jerry as we covered all ships systems from anchor chock on the foredeck to the BBQ on the stern. While it was the same vessel as Adventure, New Frontier is fitted out differently. We felt really happy that things had turned this direction and the concerns of a few days ago have melted into quiet enthusiasm. This feels good and we feel ready.
The weather also appears to he moving our way. Winds seem to be subsiding and the weather is getting hotter...more seasonal. I am very sure that tomorrow we will be at sea. Our day tomorrow will begin with an all-hands meeting at 1000 followed by a captains meeting at 1030. Our plan is to meet at the Ft Lauderdale "sea buoy" by 1600. This means we will fire up the big diesel sometime around 1330 and begin to make our way toward Port Everglades and the trip 10 miles out to the sea buoy.
Once underway, I wont have Internet access so I will keep daily logs off line and post them once we get to port in about a week. We now have a great boat, organized skipper and good crew.
But it is still Memorial Day and I cant help by be thankful for having the chance to do something like this and remember the folks who didn't make it this far and have fallen to war over the years. I know that this day was always important to my late dad who faught and bled on the beaches of Italy. I know it meant more to me after walking the beach at Normandy and coming up the stairs to see the GI cemetery. I know I am be beneficially of their bravery and sacrifice. I know I am lucky.
