Life on Adventure has settled to a bit of a routine now. We are all getting along very well and the daily like "on vessel" is nicely reminiscent of what we experience on our own trawler....only bigger. We left Key West and made our way "on the outside" up toward Marathon. It was only a few hours, so no overnight and no real watch schedule is needed.
We stopped along with way for some snorkeling. Lots of fish, but the gulf stream is pretty strong so we only staying a few hours. The sun is still largely covered with the smoke from the Florida fires. It's nasty stuff and I hope it clears soon. Still the water is very clear and as blue as can be.
Dave has been diving in the area for many years and he sees the condition of the reef deteriorating fast. "Most of the reef here is dead. Its the worst ecological disaster I have seen. Most of the coral is white and dead", Dave remarked. He would know. He started snorkeling around here when he was 12.
So late in the day we continue to motor over to Marathon which is about halfway back along the keys. We drop the hook in an exposed bay off of Boot Island near Marathon. One of the issues of going in a big yacht is that its a big yacht. We could not easily go inside the bay due to our 6 1/2 foot draft. As the winds continued to be light, we had a quiet night at anchor.
This morning we took the dink ashore and had breakfast at this funky little dive called the "Pink Pig". Like most of the keys, its in a string of dumpy little shops. The food was really good and nothing tastes as good as a stack of pancakes in one of these small, local cafe's. I ask the waitress, "are you pancakes really big"? "Well, honey, that depends on how hungry you are", she snapped back. Well, ask a stupid question...
On the way back, we meet two other Nordhavn (46) owners on a boat called "Once Sean". We always enjoy meeting new owners and finding out how they use their vessels. There is always a good conversation and this was no exception. Theirs is a 2000 which is one boat and year Sue and I have been looking at should we try to get up to a larger vessel. Who know, we might talk to them again sometime. They were heading to Key West while we still plan to get to Ft Lauderdale sometime Wednesday. The rally office opens Thursday. Sue and I have volunteered to run the office. More later.
The weather is more clear today, but getting very hot in the sun. One we go.

Hi, Kids!
Hi, Sue and Gary
Thanks for writing about this adventure; its' great to live vicariously as you make plans, prepare, and finally cast-off and DO IT! We eagerly await each day's entry.
From the ridiculous to the sublime: had a two-day roundtrip sail to/from Half Moon Bay, and planning a four-day trip to Monterey. One day, we'll have time to personally experience some of the great things that you're doing now!
Sorry that we missed you last week in Sugar Sands; hopefully, we'll get-together after you return from a safe, thoroughly-fun trip.
Calm seas and sunny weather,
Gloria and Jon
great reading!
Love reading your messages and living the adventure vicariously. It's scary the coral reefs are deteriorating....so many ecological changes these days!
Looking forward to your next posting. Joy
