Arrived in Amsterdam, greeted our hosts, Fritz and Loes, (the owners of this 4.5 story canal house) before freshening up and heading out. Amsterdam is so cute. Big city with a laid back 'small town' feel. I absolutely love this place already! (they are not lying about a million bicycles throughout this city!)
It was finally great weather so we went for a stroll through the neighborhood with its infamous canal houses.
Decided to visit the Anne Frank House (where she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years before being discovered, shipped away to concentration camps, and eventually killed). I was not prepared for how emotional this experience would be... Anne and her sister Margot's room still has all her pictures/magazine cut-outs on the wall. We found a small café on the canal and had awesome salad, quiche, and beers. Sleeping in our top- floor room- with no screens- mosquito net NOT for decoration! Breakfast in Loes and Fritz's parlor was exquisite.
Off to the market in Jordaan...and a little sightseeing Had our market feast (berries, cheese, bread...) alongside another canal cafe with some really good beer- Le Chouffe??? After lunch, decided to stop at a 'coffee shop' before heading to the Van Gogh Museum (beware of the funky brownies!) The rest of Amsterdam is quite a blur..... haha
Berlin in the morning!
