Through the highlands
Entry 5 of 8 | show all | print this entry |
Left Dunning and started our trip to Isle of Skye. Stopped just south of Aberdeen to see Dunnottar Castle. It is an amazing ruin on top of a rock right on the sea. Very dramatic, and we spent a couple hours walking around. It was a very pretty day and the wind was not so bad, so we had a great time.
Drove west into the Cairgorms (VERY narrow and curvy roads!) and stopped at a few more castles (Fraser, Blair, Glamis from a distance) and ended up staying in the little town of Grantown-on-Spey. Went into the local pub - I mean THE local pub - and had a couple pints to get sleepy for bed. Met a very interesting local guy. Creepy McHands. He told Marianne that she was a 'wee rascal' and that she needed a 'wee spanking'. Getting lots of mileage out of that one... And he tried to clean my teeth with a good-night kiss, but I pulled some of my evasive boxing moves and we ran across the street to the safety of our gray little room. Yuck.
Where I stayed:
