A fairly quiet Sunday going on today, I didn't do much yesterday, I didn't feel like doing much yesterday actually. I had a sinus headache so I took some medication and the next thing I knew it was dark outside and one or two in the morning, so yes, I basically slept the day away yesterday. I don't feel any better though so today I figured I would get out and get some fresh air and that maybe it was the A/C air that I have been breathing that is causing my sinus headaches.
It was raining during the overnight and around ten or so there was a driving rain happening so I decided to finish watching Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and maybe then the weather would be better. As the credits were rolling there was a hint of sun outside, so getting my grocery "green" grocery bags I headed out to the mall. I really didn't feel like seeing a movie but I did notice that both "Wanted" and "Hancock" were still playing so maybe this coming weekend I'll see if they are still there. It was lunchtime so a lot of the restaurants were busy, Jollibee, The Pancake House and Chow King were pretty packed so I opted for one of the small kiosk places around the theatre. I sat there and ate long enough to hear "Gimme Gimme Gimme a Man after Midnight" five or six times, maybe more. I guess they're promoting "Mamma Mia!" a little bit out here.
After getting something to eat it was down to the Save More to get some groceries and then head on back to the flat. While standing in the basket line the power flickered a couple of times, went out for a couple of seconds and then some of the lights partially came on. That didn't look like a good sign but at least all of the registers that were open were still operating, that would have sucked if they didn't have any power. I was unfortunate to be in the line that was having a cashier change so I got to stand there a little bit longer than normal. When I was finally done I headed outside only to be greeted by a driving rain. I thought I was prepared though as I dug through my bag and brought forth the small umbrella that Danielle and I purchased in Sorrento when we got caught in a rainstorm. Of course as soon as I stepped out from the covered walkway I was literally buffeted by the wind and the rain making the walk back to the flat a little bit more interesting as I was carrying two bags with me. Crossing the street with traffic coming from the left was no problem and as I neared the median, I became quickly aware that to make the crossing for the remainder of the street would be somewhat treacherous as peeking under the umbrella pretty much left it open to blow away. Yes, the wind was blowing that hard. It was at this point that I was kind of laughing to myself as I remembered the scene in "Forrest Gump" where he was describing the rain and this was pretty much "sideways rain" that was coming down or being blown down.
I did manage to cross the remainder of the road though as there was a slight break in the rain and wind that allowed me the briefest of moments to look out from behind the umbrella to see that the traffic was mostly clear. After that, the rest of the journey was pretty much looking at my feet and watching the pavement. The only part of me that did not get wet was my head by the time I made it into the lobby of the building. I guess the 80% chance of precipitation that was forecasted for Saturday showed up Sunday instead. The umbrella survived though and none of the fragile metal parts were damaged by the rainstorm so it has lived to see another day.
It is still coming down out there so it looks like I won't be going out for the rest of the day.
