I left Hamburg to go to the capital, Berlin today. The train ride was only two hours. After I had breakfast at the hotel, I packed up enough things for one night and left on the ICE (inter-city-express) train. I took a taxi from the train station in Berlin to my hotel. For the night, I stayed at the Ludwig Van Beethoven, which is right in the center of the city. I settled in and had lunch at the hotel. I decided to take a Berlin City Tour. It was three hours. I got to see all the greatest sights of the city. I saw some of the government buildings and then we went to Potsdamer Platz. Potsdamer Platz was actually one of the busiest centers of the city until World War II. It was ruined due to the construction of the Berlin Wall. It's really lively today with many modern buildings and shopping centers. I got to see a lot of the magnificent architecture in Berlin. One of the most beautiful buildings is the Reichstag. This is where the Bundestag (federal government) meets. I really loved the huge glass dome. Another one of my favorite parts of the tour was Kurfürstendamm. This is the major shopping boulevard of the city. It was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in the fifties. Going back to architecture, I also got to see Schloss Charlottenburg. This is the largest palace in Berlin. One of the parts of the tour I was looking forward to the most was seeing the Brandenburg Gate. This is one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin. It symbolizes the reunification of the city after the communist times. After the long but interesting tour, I took the U-Bahn and went to eat dinner at Bavarium. Its a Bavaria-themed restaurant with the Lederhosen and everything. I met a lot of cool, young people and tried to communicate the best that I could. It was a lot of fun! I took the U-Bahn back to my hotel.
