Once was done getting ready and having breakfast, I decided on making this day a "Museum Day." My hotel had some brochures of two museums that looked like a lot of fun. The first one I went to was the BallinStadt Emigrant's World. I had to take the S-Bahn south; it went straight to the museum. BallinStadt is also nicknamed the "Port of Dreams." The museum is actually located where the port that was built in 1901 used to be. This is where millions of emigrants left Germany to travel to the "New World" or America. What I really liked about the museum is that all the information is in both German and English. The exhibits are so realistic and modern. There was pictures and models everywhere. There was even a separate area where families could research their ancestors. The passenger lists go on forever; there was more than 600 million names! It was amazing to learn about where so many German immigrants started their journey. After I had lunch at the museum, I took the U-Bahn to the next museum, the Hamburg Dungeon. Here I learned about the dark history of Hamburg. It was like a combination of a haunted house and a museum. It was a lot of fun! One of the most interesting stories I learned about was the story of Störtebeker. He was some sort of group leader whose ship was destroyed by a traitor. For some reason he was tried in Hamburg and he and seventy of his companions were sentenced to death and beheaded. There was some sort of story that after Störtebeker was beheaded, his body got up and walked past everyone. I think its really creepy. After learning more scary stories, I took the U-Bahn back to my hotel. I just ate some of the snacks I bought for dinner. I was too scared to go out at night anymore!!
