Watersport RV Campground, Dodge City, Kansas
We left St. Cloud on Oct. 7 in a wind storm. Probably never should have left, but it didn't seem too bad. But then the wind gusts started, up to 60 mph, and then it was time to find shelter quickly. Not fun driving for Gord. We found a great state park in Sibley, only an hour from St. Cloud. The waves on the lake looked like ocean but the campground was sheltered. Met a couple of nice young ladies, Echo, a real estate agent and Trica, a geologist. We all had a good old gab session and a few glasses of wine!!! Thanks for the visit girls.
Travelled on through Minnesota & Nebraska. Sure are lots of corn fields and they went on forever
We arrived in Dodge City, Nebraska on October 11. Lots of cowboy history here. Dodge City was supposedly the "wickedest" city in the old west. Lots of memories of Gunsmoke, Matt Dillon, Miss Kitty, Doc Adams, Chester & Festus. Gord was in his glory. We toured the old town, had a drink in the Longbranch Saloon and saw Boot Hill cemetery where they buried all the gunfight losers!!!
Kansas and Dodge City is in a state of drought. Visitor Centre said the driest in 30 years. The campground we stayed at for Watersports, was all dried up. What water there was did have some geese on it but that’s all the activity that was going on there.
One emotional spot we saw here was when we were geocaching. It’s called Liberty Garden. It honours the people who lost their lives in 9/11. There’s a piece of steel from the World Trade Centre, a piece of the Pentagon Limestone and sandstone from the hemlock grove from Shanksville, Pennsylvania
Did have to take Gord to the doctors in Dodge City. He has been fighting hayfever since Calgary on our trip across the Canadian Prairies. Through the prairie states things didn’t improve and now has asthma issues. The clinic we went to had a respiratory tech on staff so that was great. She gave him a nebulizer treatment and after breathing in the meds, Gord’s chest did improve some. The doc gave him a new puffer. Things are slowly improving, just need to get to the desert. So we got the hell out of Dodge and will be travelling through 4 states on a geocache hunt.
