hey all!!
we have arrived in thailand and are having a fantastic time - bit weird that we are in the middle of a coup but it hasn't affected us at all!!!
we got to bangkok on the 9th september after leaving cape town on the morning of the 8th and I(Gerry) had a bad start to our travels - puked 5 times just a few hours before boarding our first flight!! not great preparation for 24 hours on a plane :(
we spent 4 days in bangkok. everyone we spoke to told us to get in and out of bangkok as quickly as possible but our wee lonely planet said to stay a while to see everything! Well we stayed 4 days not cos there was much to do but because we were sick
Have very few photos and Gerry was looking particularly rough so he wouldn't let me put any of him up

01 Yeah a bin after 4 days!!
. Gerry got better after a couple of days in Bangkok and then I got sick and near fainted one day. As for the city, I'm afraid I don't really have anything positive to say bout it. It's defo one of those places that is better remembered than experienced and we remember it for everything we don't like unfortunately. It's smelly, mental sticky (even in winter) and most people just try to rip u off. But despite being sick and attacked by mosquitoes galore we battled to see the main attractions. We went to the weekend markets (where it looked like the entire population of Bangkok was gathered), we saw the Grand Palace and other Buddha( Thai God) temple shrines and went to the tourist areas. We also got on the famous tuk tuks. Tuk tuk's are wee taxi type scooters that never take u where u want to go. They get commission for taking u all round bad tailor places and cheap jewellers. our driver was really mean when we said we weren't going into the shity shops so we just paid him a bit and got out, not having a clue where we were (not nice !)Have very few photos and Gerry was looking particularly rough so he wouldn't let me put any of him up

Comments
Must do in bkk!
1 - Excellent thai food, Anna's cafe on Sukhumvit Road is a great one!
2 - Custom tailored Suits - Crown Tailor in Sukhumvit soi 8 - Excellent suits
3 - Thai massage - asked for a soft one though! heard about how some of them can get very painful!
4 - Platinum mall - targeted towards the ladies, but a big shopping arcade full of clothes (cheap) on Pratunam
