Continued from ; Yangshuo, Mei Yu
Moon Hill is the most photographed of the limestone towers because there's a big round hole in it. We have cycled here through some extraordinary landscape. Now we begin to climb to the moon. I've brought some oranges to keep up the energy levels. Hawkers try to sell us water, but we have brought plenty. At the top we stand in the moon shaped hole and high on adrenalin, go one stage further and climb again so that by now, we are over the moon ! It's precarious but we are rewarded with an unbelievably spectacular view. Below us is a prickly landscape of limestone spikes. A huge green porcupine sleeping under a heavy sky.
We take a very circuitous route back to Yangshuo through more of these 'karst topography' formations. Its wonderful to be wheeling along, with so much weirdness all around us. My legs have almost no strength left in them as we peddle on. Stopping at a small shop to eat some brightly coloured fruit jelly. Like you do. The last half hour is tough. We don't give up nor do we walk. That evening the same tired and bruised legs suddenly seem to find the strength to walk to the pub. Wes and I choose the Lizard Lounge as our venue. It's a rock climbers hangout. There is bar-hanger in there who calls herself Candy. She's keen to make conversation with me but clearly she is as daft as a brush.
