I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 8am on Monday the 23rd of July. I was in work for 9 o'clock. I was training in rooms today with a crazy Aussie woman called Liz. She is married to an Irishman. We laught and joked all day long. It was a great day at work. After the working day which finished at 3pm, she brought me to the bus stop. When she took off from the bus stop she stalled the engine, which only added to the laughter. While at the bus stop I met and talked to an American woman called Jude from Arizona. We talked about the differences in Australian English and English in general, and of course how beautiful Cairns is in the Winter. She had just come from the Cairns Tropical zoo, which was right across from the bus stop. While there she had her photo taken with a Koala, which she showed me. It was a very nice photograph. Her son, daughter, daughter's friend and her mother (I think) were on holiday with her.
I got on the bus first and Jude sat down beside me, she asked me allot of questions about Ireland, in particular about divorce and abortion. She was very surprised to hear that euthanasia was legal in both the Netherlands and Switzerland. She told me that allot of the woman in Arizona have fake tits and blonde hair. I think this woman liked to travel and still will do allot more traveling in the future. She told that she once made her friend leave her home to go traveling with her somewhere in America for 2 years. She also gave me here email address since she wanted me to sent here the URL of my travel log. When we got off the bus we wish each other all the best in our travels. That night I met Arie in P.J Brien's for 4 jugs of beer. While there I felt that I had spend enough time with this person and I will also in the future spend some time with him again, so I told him that I was funny, at first he did not believe it and told me to stop drinking beer. :-)
On Tuesday the 24th I was training in rooms again with Mabel who from Papua new Guinea and Dian. I must have folded about 200 towels. While at work I was passed by an old Aussie couple in the corridor. The old man said to me "are you cleaning my room" and I said "I don't think so since there is nobody in there", and he said "of course not, we are here" :-) smart arse, but replied I anyway by saying I meant there are no bags in there. Another example of Aussie smartness is when I asked one of my colleagues does she know where 2 bath robes are, and she said "does it look like I do linen". That night I went to see 'Gone' at the movies with Arie. It's a movie about an English couple who go traveling with an physco American guy in outback of Australia. OK movie, but not much scenery of Australia. On Wednesday the 25th of July and it was work as usual. I worked with Kim (guy from Korea) until 2pm then I was house person until 5pm.
While walking back to my hostel from the bus station I got a phone call from Arie telling me that he had 2 vouchers for free dinner at the Rhino bar. So we had chicken curry rice and one beer. After that he went back to his hostel and I went back to mine. While at my hostel I met 2 guy's from Co. Offaly (Ireland) in my room. They were only 3 weeks in Australia and were fully of energy. They wanted me to go out with them but I was too tired. I watched TV until 10 o'clock. That night I finished my book Sophie's world. I had a day off work Thursday the the 26th. So I washed my clothes and went to the Internet cafe. In the afternoon I went for a long walk to James St. (Suburb of Carins), I found a gym along the way, but it was too expensive $15. I got the bus back to the city. I got a phone call from work asking me could I come to work tomorrow, I said yes. I watched south park on TV and had dinner at 6:30pm. Every evening in Carins at 6pm a flock of birds descend on the city and make allot of noise. Also through out the evening you can also see many fruit bats flying around. Later that evening I listened to some music, updated my travel log and started a new book 'The Holy Innocents'.
