Thursday the 21st of June was going to be my last day of fruit picking. I got up that morning at 6am as usual. We all hoped we would not work since the weather forecast said it would rain all day. But the bus arrived and we all got on. When we got there the farmer gave us rain costs and we started to pick melons. 15 minutes later it started to rain and it just got heavier. At 8:15am Rory (Scottish guy) and I walked off the field, we had had enough. I was thinking that I do not want to be sick for the next 2 weeks. On the way up the field the farmer picked us up. He made us sign the book (sign out) straight away. He then asked me do I want the bus to be called. I asked him how long will the others work until, he said all day. So then I asked him could I say here for a while, but as soon as I said that, the bus came in the gate of the farm as it was picking up other people who were working in the shed. This was a God sent, perfect timing. :-) So I got on the bus and went back to the hostel, nice, an empty shower block. At 9:30am, the rest of the fruit pickers were back in the hostel. They were all telling me well done for walking off, because it just got worse. The melons were floating in the field. :-)
In the afternoon I went to the Internet cafe and on the way back to the hostel I bought 6 cans of Bundaberg o.p. rum. A few people were drinking on the kitchen deck when I got back. I joined them at around 4pm. The German girl, Eva also joined in. We sat together most of the night and were minding each other's seats so that we could sit together. :-) When my 6 cans were gone I went to the off licence with Nathalie (Walsh girl). On the way we had to climb a fence in order to get around the movie set. But when Nathalie tried to climb the fence she ripped her jeans and so she had to go back and change, she gave me her money for cigarettes. She said I was to meet her in the pub on the way back. When I got to the bottle shop I decided to buy a bottle of rum and coke to mix it with. I went back to the hostel instead of going to the bar. The Kitchen deck was more fun. When I got there the party was in full swing and the music was loud, but good. I shared the bottle of rum with Eva and anyone else that wanted some. I don't remember that last hour of the evening or how I got to bed, but apparently I was Irish dancing and singing. :-) The photo's of this night are very funny, which I hope to get from Melisa soon.
Friday the 22nd of June was my last full day in Bowen or now called 'Boring Bowen' or 'Rainy Bowen' and definitely not 'Bowenwood'. I was in bed most of the day because of the rum the day before. :-) I tried to ring the GP on Magnetic Island, in order to make an appointment for a dive medical. But nobody answered the phone. Anyway, I went back to the hostel and now I was feeling me my headache. I had dinner on the kitchen deck. Melisa was drinking wine with her dinner and offered me some, then Eva came along drinking wine and offered me some also. I accepted since I knew we were all going out for me last night in Bowen. After dinner I got my contact book and gave it to the people in the hostel who I wanted to keep in contact with. I just asked for there email addresses but most of them wrote a short message. Some of the messages were very touching. I realised then I had met some really nice people here in Bowen and it was obvious that they thought I was a great guy. :-) We left the kitchen deck at around 9:00pm to go to the Grandview (bar). I think about 15-20 people came out that night. It was a nice group. At around 10:30pm ish we went to the local disco, well it's more of a disco bar. It was allot of people's first time here including me. It was good fun with everyone drunk and dancing.
