Monday the 4th of June I was up at 5:50am for my first fruit picking day. We drove there in a bus provided by the hostel. Most of the road was a dirt road, with just sand on it. We picked pumpkins all day. Basically there were 5 people cutting the pumpkins from there stalks and the rest followed a machine and picked up the pumpkins and placed them on a conveyor belt. It was my turn to cut the pumpkins in the afternoon, which is allot harder than picking then, because you are bent down all the time. That night I had steak for dinner. I felt good after a hard days work. :-) I thought to myself that the work was not to hard, but I was really disliking the hostel. It was dirty with a bad kitchen. You had to fight for your cooking place. My intention was to do 3 months fruit picking so that I could extend my visa for another year. But I was later to find out that I could not extend my visa the fruit picking way, because I still needed to be under 30 years of age. So basically I am too old. :-)

Tuesday the 5th of June I was up at 6:00am for work, more pumpkins and rock melons in the afternoon. In the morning I was cutting pumpkins and in the row next to me the guy seen a snake, we all stopped and went over to see it. It was not very big, but very colourful. The farmer told us that is was very venomous and would kill you with in 5 minutes if it bit you.Work was fun with the German guy Tim. He was always laughing and joking. That night I went to the Irish pub and had my first pint of Guinness in Australia. Expensive though, $8 a pint. I went to the Grandview hotel pub. It was then that I noticed that this town was a real hillbilly town. With men wearing hats thinking that they are cowboys. :-) I thought about leaving this place as soon as possible, since there nothing to do in this town after work. After the bar I went back to the hostel and played UNO with, Gema (English girl) Arie (Dutchman) Geaton (Belgium guy).

Wednesday the 6th I got up at 6am again, but we only worked 4 hours because of the rain. We needed diving suits to pick the fruit. :-) It was a really bad day to work,,, we had to carry on working about 45 minutes while it rained. Then we had to wait in our wet clothes for 1 and 1/4  hours for the bus to pick us up. I went to the Internet cafe in the afternoon . That evening I went to the Hotel Bar with Arie (Dutchman) for 3 jugs of beer. Had a good chat with him. When we got back to the hostel there was a party on the kitchen deck, so we joined in. It was good fun and everyone was drunk. I was in bed by 12.

It was raining on the 7th of June so most people did not even get out of bed to see if there was work, including me. Well I got out to go to the toilet and then went back to bed. It was announced on the speaker that there was no work today. Great a day off :-)

Friday the 8th I got out of bed at 6:00am and was ready for work but it was cancelled again because too much rain fell the day before. I stayed up for 2 hours, before going back to bed until 11. In the afternoon I went to to see Shrek 3 with 3 Scots and 2 Irish people and me. It was OK,, not as good as the first two. Same with all part three's. While at the movies we seen one of the actors from the movie they are making here. I went to bed early that night.
