Saturday the the 12th of May was Day 3 on Fraser and to be honest I was glad, in fact I think everyone in the group was glad. We had cornflakes as usual. We then drove to central station which had a allot of information about what was happening on the island - the removal of timber (trees) and other natural resources.
But this has all stopped now since it is listed as a world heritage area. While at central station I went for a small walk through the forest with the the two Italian guys. It was now my turn to drive again, but this time it was across country to Lake McKenzie, it was a great drive, much more difficult than being on the sand.
We got to lake Mckenzie and it truly was magnificent with clear blue water. It is a perched lake, formed by water accumulating on top of a thin impermeable layer of decaying twigs an leaves. While there I met Helen and the Swedish guy (Fedrick) from the first night on the island. We could only stay here for an hour because it began to rain.
We all ran back to the jeep. We headed back to the hotel and shop area and waited there for two hours before catching the ferry back to Hervey Bay (main land). While there we had to clear out the jeep and make sure we had everything.
Which we did. We eventually got back to the hostel and there was a mad rush to use the showers,, sand just gets everywhere. That night I joined a $10 all you can eat pizza and soft drinks in the hostel. There I met Helen and Fedrick again. I have to say that I have met allot of Swedish people on my travels and everyone of them are so nice. I decided to go for a few drinks in the Irish pub. While there an old OZ man started to talk to me, I could not understand everything he was saying but he was a war veteran. There was also a traditional Irish band (well 2 people) playing in the corner. I later talked to one of the band members, he was from Dublin and had lived in Australia for 7 years.
