I have been blessed with many gorgeous friends in my lifetime and am so lucky to know everyone I have in my life. Cassie has just been my one very constant rock, we have experienced so much of life together and Traveled the globe quite a few times. She knows my personality inside and out, my quirks, my pet hates, the very little, tiny details that make me who I am.
When I first started organising this trip, Cass was the one person I was the most nervous to tell, I think this is because since leaving high school we have barely gone six weeks without each other and talk to each other nearly every day
Despite being nervous to tell Cassie she could not have been more thrilled for me. The news was taken very well without a moments hesitation she smiled, clapped her hands and wanted to know the intricate details.
Although I was allowed to embark on this once in a lifetime adventure with My other travel buddy (her enemy - AKA - Stuart) I was given some tough terms and conditions to follow, I wanted to share these with you all and invite you into a part of my world which I treasure every day, my 'Cassie world'.
First condition was a shot glass from every city I go to. We have a tradition you see that no matter where we travel to, if we are without one another, the one traveling MUST get the chump at home a shot glass with some tacky picture of the city or the name of the city at least to symbolise that the traveling companion has been there.
Once I got into the intricate plans with Cassie of where we will be going to, she discovered these were plans that she and I always had together, for example; Cinque Terre, Italy - Stuart and I are spending a week hiking here. Cadbury factory and legoland in England were also big on our to do list - 2 things that as avid readers of my blog you will know Stuart and I did already this week
When we traveled to Africa together we noticed a lot of people take soft toys with them and troll dolls etc. they photograph these beloved symbols of their childhood at all sorts of world famous land marks. This sparked our idea of the Cassie head. I figured, why not take a life size, laminated head of Cassie in my handbag? So that is exactly what she organised, I now carry Cassie around with me either in my back pack or hand bag so that she does not miss a moment of the adventure and pull her out at any land marks that I feel is funny or something she would love and stuart takes the photos begrudgingly. I wanted to share with you some of the photos we have taken so far. I started taking them when our adventure started in cairns and I plan on taking them all the way to the end of the adventure in Dubai. Please also feel free to leave suggestions or ideas in the comment box if you have a good idea for a photo.
Back to the shot glass dilemma, I know what you are thinking: that is alot of weight and space to take around with you for 7 months. We have combatted that by compromising on baby clothes, if I come to a city that has cheap baby clothes I will purchase some tacky t shirt that says 'I heart Moscow' on it, that way in time I can wrap the shot glasses in the shirt and send them to her on the road
Cassie is the person that has helped me develop my love for travel, before getting into the travel industry I had a lot of negative people around me who couldn't understand why I wanted to travel or how someone could spend that kind of money on something you cannot physically call a possession. I think i have always had some form of the 'travel bug' even before I met her, but she is the person who took me out of my comfort zone. She roped me into going to Africa in 2010 and I say rope quite literally! I was not told all the facts, before putting my deposit down. I very quickly found out we were camping for the whole 2 weeks through Kenya and Uganda. I look back on it now and I could not thank her more for throwing me out of my comfort zone as I found myself on that holiday. I got a passion for adventure travel, a passion for Africa and just a general encouraging push to see more of the world. I am now passing that love and knowledge onto Stuart and cannot wait for the adventures I create with him.
So the cassie head, shot glasses and baby clothes are all my way of showing the appreciation and giving back. I also want to keep my Cassie world very much alive whilst on the road.
