It was my last day in Barcelona and it was a hot one. The next day, I was off to London to finally see Olympic fever for myself and there was a lot I needed to get done before I left. However, a combination of heat (the humid, sweaty kind) and my natural propensity for laziness meant that I did absolutely nothing.

Therefore, on the morning of my departure I had an awful lot to do– some shopping for my brother, as he would be staying in my flat while I was away, final clean up (again for my brother) and of course my own packing.Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish everything and had to rush out to the airport. Given that the last time I flew to London, I’d left some things behind (see 'Big Fella's Gone Walkabout’),this time I took a breath before running out to the bus stop to make sure I had everything. One suitcase - check - one backpack - check - one passport - check - one boarding pass - check. That brief moment to take stock caused me to narrowly miss my bus. Damn! So, imagine how I was feeling, when I got to the bus stop and realised that I’d brought the wrong backpack. Instead of the bag with all my medication, my lunch, camera etc., I had my bag with all my things from work. What to do? Scream in frustration or laugh wryly at my mistake? Oddly enough, I laughed wryly at myself as I went back home to get the right bag. After all, if I had managed to catch the bus, when would I have realised that I’d brought the wrong backpack?

Naturally, there had been other things to do before leaving and among the things I hadn't done was to go to the bank to change my Euros into Sterling, but I knew that I would be able to change my money at Barcelona airport, something I had done many times before. What I hadn’t realised was that things had changed at the airport, one of those changes was that the bank had also become a ‘Tax-Free’ refund centre – I'm not sure if that’s the right name for it.The upshot of which was that there was a huge queue at the ‘bank’, add to that I didn’t have a lot of time before takeoff, because I’d arrived later than I would have liked, I had to forget about getting currency from my own bank and taking my chances in the UK (gulp!).

This was not the ideal way to start a holiday.
