It's a cliche, I know, but I fell into it, anyway.

I should start by saying that I hadn't intended to write anything today. No disrespect intended, but there are a thousand blogs all beginning with the final packing, the nerves, setting off to the airport, the tedium/frustration at the airport, the excitement etc. To be honest, I find that a little hackneyed.

Back to the point. There is a feeling that we all have when it comes to packing for a trip/holiday. The question you ask yourself over and over is "Have I got everything?" We've all been there, you check your bag once, twice, countless times as you're waiting to leave, only to find everything is packed and where it should be,...or is it?

After greeting my Mum, after eating my dinner, after meeting my niece for the first time, the time came to chill out on the internet on my laptop. That's when the pit of my stomach touched base with my backside - no, I hadn't forgotten my laptop - that would be just plain silly! But what I had forgotten were all the necessary cables - no power for the laptop, no power for the camera (and no data connection to the laptop, which shortly won't have power anyway), no usb connector for the ipod, so that will run out of power too. In fact, with all my plans for these technological marvels, I find myself frustrated at the first step - no music, no photos, no computer. My only alternative now, is to buy replacements for these cables. Damn! An inauspicious start, indeed.

Not only had I been asking myself the "Have I got everything?" question all morning, but Mike asked me the very same question as he picked me up to give me a lift to the airport. That will be the last time I blithely say, "Sure, no worries." As a warning to the rest of you, no matter how many times you've checked, take a moment to calm yourself, look around and make certain, because there's no going back if you get it wrong.

even the coolest cat has some flaws when facing such a challenge... but starting with a "set back" means that it can only get better!

Easy! A 'paper' notebook to jot down experiences and sketch what you see. As for music; an old ukelele would be very fitting!

well, you havent said whether u got all cables or not in the end???? or is that for next post to make it more intriguing? LOL

@ Yo. No intrigue. Cables were replaced immediately. All sorted (at unnecessary expense, I might add). I'd mentioned it on fb, but I suppose I should keep all my comments in one place. Hope all is good in BCN.

@Joe - slow down, fella! Next thing you'll be telling me is that I should know who David Bowie is!!!!
