Today instead of class we went to the market at San Francisco Alto. Everything in the world in for sale. Every animal in the world (dead, alive, cooked every way possible), all vegetables, fruits, electronics. I saw beautiful antique Singer sewing machines..but they were for sale for use. It was VERY crowded. Really it was too crowded to shop if you wanted to. The only thing I bought was a book. A childrens english dictionary. My teacher had been telling me about her daughter. She is 6 and learning english. My teacher looked at it a while, asked the price then put it down. I bought it for her later. 15q ($2). I was thinking about a gift for my teacher anyway. We talked the whole time so it was a good use of class time. If I have time I will post a picture of us at the market. While there we visit a Mayan cereminial site too. Actually walked past one ceremony in progress then went to another that had just bee used fires were still going) to take pictures. We also saw a very old cathedral with beautiful art
We ate at a Thai restraunt last night celebrating Amys birthday. It was one of the nicer places in town and I managed to spend $7. We ate in a beuatiful courtyard. It was late so I took a taxi home.
Tonight all of the students will cook and eat together at the school, speaking only spanish of course.
A very small part of the fruit section.
. I think I forgot to mention that one of the cathedrals we have seen is the oldest in Central America (Tuesday I think). The one today was the most beautiful inside. The art was sort of primitive but beautiful. About 400 years old they said.We ate at a Thai restraunt last night celebrating Amys birthday.
