I arrived in Bogota two days ago, and now I relax in the hotel (posh and stylish, I think I will lead the luxurious life for a while!). I am fine, no drug lords after me. Bogota looks very European in style and temperature. I still feel weak from the change in altitude and climate. The university is impressive and the unit has experienced epidemiologists and biostatisticians - I am very excited and I am sure I will profit a lot from this collaboration and learn many things from them as well.
Before leaving Venezuela I took ten days off and had some real holidays. So, now I will report retrospectively on this short vacation.
To be absolutely honest with you, my dear public, I had better (and worse) holidays in my life. Let's put it that way: the combination of these three nationalities 'Australian-Greek-Venezuelan' is not the best you can get. I guess all horoscopes, card readers and witch-doctors would have advised against this particular ethnic admixture, but unfortunately I didn't consulted them before setting up these holidays. Minor issues such as diarrhea of my fellow travellers and the bloody mundial did not help things.
However, as you will see in the pictures and read soon, nice relaxing moments and fun were abundant despite some occasional unhappy faces. Diving, beaches, remote islands, drinking with the locals and a animistic - Christian festival that was going on for three days... 'not bad, not bad'...
Please go and see 'previous entries'.... Wait, not yet, we start tomorrow!!
