Today after breakfast we decided to drive to Lake Louise. I have been here once before when it was frozen and snow covered. I was looking forward to seeing the Lake Louise as shown on the postcards, turquoise blue. Unfortunately today my dad was ill…grrrr to that sick lady on a plane!
The lake was spectacular, just like the postcards in fact. At the far end of a lake we could see the large glacier ice. Apparently this was at least 5kms away, which seemed hard to believe from where we were stood, but non the less true.
Once at the lake we walked down a footpath by the side of it until we came to a waterfall which was still frozen. We walked back up the path to the Fairmont Chateau to have dinner. I do think the inside of the hotel is much nicer looking than the outside…but that's down to opinion I guess.
After lunch we went to back towards Banff, on the way detouring to Johnston Canyon. There is a well set out trail with walkways built out from the cliff sides of the ravine, which lead to two sets of waterfalls - lower and upper. It is a spectacular walk.
