Entry 17 of 19 | show all | print this entry

I've been on holiday since the 14 march!! which is like nearly 3weeks. What have i been doing in this time, nothing and yet loads. The first few days my parents came to visit (hello mummy and daddy). It was great to see them as i hadnt seen them since the day i left just over 6months ago. They brought with them many gifts for me, the most desired being a large supply of much needed chocolate which i must add i am still working my way through which just shows how much i got! (as im sure you know how easy it is to eat choc). Once again i must thank Gem M for her wonderfullness in providing me with not only chocolate but also clothes, alcohol and recent uk music (so im not completely lost when i return) i love you gem! Thankyou to everyone who sent stuff out. Now that my parents had so much extra space in their bags i could only return teh favour by giving them some of my stuff to take home with them which i dont need anymore eg fleece and thermal top! i'm always trying to think of ways to get all my gear home again so if anyone has any amazing ideas like shrinking things into tiny packages that can then instantly return to their normal size when i need them, then that would be great. If not will you all help george to put on a bit of muscle so she can carry more home!! (love ya georgy).

The best thing about my parents being there, other than them, being able to eat food i cant afford and generally being spoilt is that i got the chance to be a tourist. I had been here for 6 months and not had the chance. We took a tram ride up to the peak, a high point where you could see over kowloon. There was also a short walk around the summit which we did to burn off our cakes, which of course were necessary to stop dad winging. At mums request and dad's disgust i took them to the famous (apparently) Stanley market for a spot of shopping.

Day 2 was the personal tour to my town, the school and my house. I think they enjoyed seeing what i got up to all the time. I managed to take them on a trip round the local supermarket and get some good food to take with me. We sat on the beach (yes i have a beach right by my house) dad painted while mum played in the sand. In the evening we went to dinner at a live seafood restaraunt on the waterfront. Amy and i chose and had to go point at the fish in the tank. (good thing we did it then cos people have died recently from eating poisonous coral fish).

Day 3 last real day with them. Went to lantau island to see the big buddha. its one of those things that im can say yup i've been there, but i will never be going again. all it is, is a huge iron figure of a buddha with a few temples scattered around, not my idea of fun.

When i woke up on day 4 they'd already left to catch their plane to to singapore. it was almost as if it had been a dream, corny but true. i went down to breakfast on my own before making my way back to school.

A few days later and i was off to thailand. I spent a day in Bangkok which i hated, it was so sticky and smogy that i could hardly breath and felt thoroughly sick. we decided not to stay another day like planned. We took an overnight VIP coach/ ferry to Ko sammui, then taxi across to the other pier where we met up with the others Carla (girl i had met on Project Trust selection) and Caroline (her partner) their project was in thailand teaching english at a school. It was summer holidays for them so they were travelling for 2months. The second ferry took us to Ko Pha Ngan, Haad rin beach which was to be our home for the next few days. It was paradise, clean white sandy beach, clear blue sea, hot sunshine and a comfortable bungalow 3m off the beach. we spent the majority of the day sunbathing, swimming or shopping. The evenings were spent eating in various different restaraunts, (i even managed to get my steak that i had been craving for the past couple of months) then partying all night. The drinking was made especialy cheap by 'buckets' you would buy a bucket (of varying sizes) that would contain a bottle of alcohol usually vodka and some mixers. Instructions: pour contents into bucket, add straws, drink.........very messy! great fun!! most nights we managed to stagger down the beach back to our bungalow by 5am. The whole place was filled with backpackers with the majority under the age of 30, so plenty of people to talk to. The time flew by so rapidly that it instantly felt time to leave again. Another coach and more ferries and finally a taxi took us back to the airport by 5am on our day of departure. As our flight didnt leave unitl 1 we slept as much as we could (unfortunately wasnt much) on plastic airport chairs, not compfy. I was ammused on the flight by computer games on personal console thingys. Before i knew it i was back in hong kong. Amy's boyfriend was waiting for her as we left the exit gate. They went off to lantau and i went back to school.
