February was just an average kind of month. On support or working in the workdshop most of the time. It finally started to warm up a bit, but still not great. The only thing slightly different to other months is that Amy and i spent 5 days, (well actually 6 in the end) on the island Wong Wan Chau. The caretaker had to go to hospital which meant they needed someone to babysit the island, Amy and i were happy to volunteer as we had great fun there last time it was just the two of us. This time we spent most of our time in either our pyjamas or bikins!
One morning i woke up early, but it was too chilly for bikini so i took my matress and sleeping bag outside and lay on the jetty (didn't want sand in my pjs ewww). This is all well and good until 2 chinese fishermen turn up and start waving what looked like an old fishing net at me. They didn't speak english and i obviously dont speak cantonese so we all stood there looking at each other not really know what to do. Then one of the fishermen starts dancing around and acting out some kind of drama. I think Amy must have been concerned as to what they were doing as she came over to see what was going on and check that i was ok. We eventually worked out that the net was to cover the plants to stop the birds pecking at them. However we didn't and still don't know if Sahaman (caretaker) had asked for it or if they were trying to sell it. They got out of their boat and dropped the net outside sahaman's house, guessing that he wanted it we left it and the fishermen left. I never did find out what happened to it!
On the last day we packed all our stuff and moved down to the jetty around 10am ready to be picked up. We waited........and waited........and waited. at 3pm we decided it was about time to call Jason and see what was going on. However Jason was in the middle of a first aid exam. 2 hours later he called us back saying he couldn't get hold of Sahaman and that as everyone had just finished a strenuous 10day first aid course we'd have to stay there another night. we were not ammused to say the least, especially as the next day, friday was my birthday. Jason promised to pick us up at 9am next day......9am came and went at 10am we said thats it we're not waiting another day. Once again we called Jason "hey where is our boat?" "ken booked it ask him" so next we called ken "ken where is our boat" "oh s*!$ i forgot to book it" "KEN!!" "i'll go do it now, don't go anywhere" yeah like where did he expect us to go??! at 10:30 a speed boat finally arrived, phew we thought. 5mins away from Wong Wan Chau and we got stopped by the police. We all handed over our id cards and waited another 10mins while the police fussed around with those. After what felt like ages we made it back to Wong Shek pier where thankfully Samuel was waiting in the car to pick us up. Back at the flat i found i'd missed a call from my mum (as it was my birthday). every time we attempted to talk (yell) to Jason he literally ran away. We had planned a shopping trip but as it was already half way through the day we decided there wouldn't be enough time. so instead we just went into town, where i had my hair cut. It was on eof the scariest things in my life. I was petrified they were going to cut off tons, so i made amy sit next to me the entire time to prevent any more than the tiniest pieces being cut.
The evening of the 27th was the annual 'Spring Dinner' it was held in a restaraunt in town. It was an enjoyable night, the entire staff of the school where there. With much food and drink flowing it was time to start the games. each table was given some materials eg paper, balloons, glue, pens etc to make a poster. there were some very errr interesting designs!! There was also the normal kids party games like musical chairs and pass the parsel. Then followed the more adult games eg downing a pint of beer the fastest. It was amazing how fast the beer dissappeared!!! Once the meal was over it was by no means the end of the night, at 11pm it was early. Amy and I along with 8 chinese staff went to town town otherwise known as Lan Kwei Fung (LKF) many many pubs and clubs! im sure you can guess the rest 10 people with the eldest only 26! as it was my birthday i wasnt allowed to pay for anything, so use your imagination (not that its hard) to work out what state i was in when i eventually made it back nearly 6am. I only feel sorry for those that had to work that day! luckily i was not one of them.
