Hey Guys!

Hope your well. Sorry I havent wrote for ages but as you can imagine I'm quite busy at the mo! Have met everyone on our tour now and they are all great. A real mixture of nationalities and personalities. We have some Irish who are the party animals of the group and love singing, especially traditional irish laments at the end of the night! We have three Americans and the rest are English. Ages range from 19- about 26 so were all pretty similar ages which is call. Our tour guide is so much fun. He is called Vaugn and is Phillipino, and is much more fun than i ever thought a tour guide would be. He's always joking around- we wonder how he has so much energy! Anyway we heard from another group that everyone wants to have Vaugn as their tour guide, so I guess were pretty lucky. They said their group was boring and they wanted to join ours!

That night we all went out to sample the local night life and found out that we hadnt been to Koh San road the night before after all, but instead we had gone on a really insignificant back street (:)) Bit of error there! Anyway we eventually made it down their and i think i saw my first lady boy, but im not convinced, though I spose thats the whole point. We went to a bar which was filled with more english backpackers than it was local people, but was extremely hilarious listening to the thai locals singing enlish karoke- I now do a very good impression of a thai singing pussy cat dolls- but must be careful not to do it in front of thai people (which unfortunately I forgot the other night!)

We stayed in Bangok for a further half a day to visit the Grand Palace (where the Thai Royal family used to live) which I personally thought was a bit trashy, as the temple looked as though it had been painted in gold foil, rather than expensive gold. the supposed emerald budha which we payed loads to go and see was only about 1 foot high! I was expecting something breath taking.
Anyway luckily we went to see the Reclining budha afterwards which is in another temple and it was amazing! As everyone knows I'm not too good as estimating size, but Caz's prediction was that it was about 20ft high and about 50ft long, so we'll go with that one! Anyway it was pretty spectacular, although pretty freaky, as I am scared of big sculptures- no idea why!.(During the course of our stay we must have seen bout 2 other budha's as well, but after a while they all look the same so I wont bore you with the details).

While at the reclining budha temple, we decided to get a thai massage, as it was the place of the first thai massage school. Everyone else loved theirs but mine absolutely Killed! At one point the guy was using his feet to push my leg out of joint! They also put their fingers in your ears and pull all your fingers out of joint! No my idea of a relaxing time :)! anyway 250 bahts later, and much more pain later, we came back to start out journey on the over night train to Chang Mai......

By the way- I know everyone gave me advice bout the do's and dont's of Bangkok and I have just bout forgotton all of them and made my own up! I have eaten the meat and so far have been fine, but sometimes we're not sure if the dodgy looking meat is a chickens foot or a strange looking mushroom- jury is still out on that one! We have been ripped off my Tuk Tuk drivers paying at least 5 times more (only once though- it was his lucky day!). I have put my feet on the table and worst of all I accidently stood on a bank note (the worst crime ever, as its near enough to standing on kings face and the Thais love their king! Locals have been known to bite people for this!) BUT at least i've learnt and now can pass my knowledge to the next of you who go travelling which Im sure you will promtly forget same as I did!
