Hi everyone,
I hope you are all well! As you can see from the title of my blogg I have been doing alot of office work this week. The organisation I am working for has there 25th anniversary on 5th November and as volunteers we are required to take in turns to prepare for the big day. It is going to be a big celebration where they hope to get more sponsors (Pro Ninos gets all its money from sponsors). I am told it is going to be a posh affair so I am required to dress very smart, think I may have to get some new clothes then!!! So yeah I have been photocopying and wrapping prizes for the raffle. It has been abit dull but I do get to spend time and eat breakfast and dinner with the children so it is not all bad.
This week it was Emma´s birthday so I cooked an English roast for her. That was the first roast I have had since I left england but it was no where as nice as my mums!!!
It was funny because I went on my own to get the ingredients from Walmart and on the way I saw one of the street children I work with. I came out of the station at a different exit and I thought I knew where I was going!! Anyway I was walking and he shouted out after me and ran after me. I was on edge as this child can be very unpredictable at times!! anyway he was very nice and told me I was going the wrong way, I was not convinced but he assured me I was and said he would show me the way. I was very on edge but walked with him and he showed me short cut!! great!!! we had a chat on the way and he told me he lived around there, think I will avoid that area in future! and he told me he loved living on the street and that he sleeps in the doorway to the bank at night. On the way I also saw another child I knew washing car windscreens as the cars were stopped at traffic lights. The educators at work have said that often a child does not want to leave the street and it takes time for them to make the decision to have a better life. This boy has been coming to the centre for about 2 months, it will be interesting whether in time he will change his mind. I am learning so much about other peoples circumstances and am beginning to understand the real meaning of poverty! I just need to crack the Spanish now that I am still finding very hard!
I have not done any street work yet as they rotate the rota every month. I am pleased in a a way because it gives me more time to learn Spanish.
The weather is lovely and hot here, I really can not imagine it being cold in England!!! although yesterday was abit nippy, I had to wear my jumper for most of the day!!
must go and rest now, I have an early start in the morning!
