Hi,
Sorry it has been awhile since my last entry. I have so busy learning spanish, I am improving slowly!
I was supposed to start work this week but now I start Monday as they are over staffed. On Monday and Tuesday we had our usual spanish class which towards the end was hard going. Emma and I did not have a clue what was going on, yet alone undertand it. The teacher spoke in spanish for the entire class which made it impossible for us to understand. Thank god they are over!!!! well the difficult classes!
For the rest of the week we have been going to the university to have extra classes. These have been fine because it is just me and Emma so it is at our pace. We had homework and we got it all right, yeah!!! so we are getting there!!! Now I know how to form a sentence life is easier. We are trying to practice as much as we can, Emma told the Nuns she was Asda, what she meant to say was she was going to walmart, it was very amusing. The nun just looked so confused!!! ha!
Emma and I have been going to the university everyday and we have now progressed to being the class teacher! I have taught 4 lessons so far. The Mexicans love hearing the british accent. They even asked there teacher to talk like me, ha! The spánish teacher speaks in an american accent and they say the british accent is hard for them understand so they want to practice while I am here, suits me! They teach me spanish too so its all good!
Emma and I are going to Tulcula this weekend to see another volunteer. It is her birthday so she is having a big party, more parties!!!! It will nice to have a weekend free of studying spanish but I will be practicing what I have learnt of course!!!
I am really looking forward to starting work on monday. Emma and I are on seperate teams so I will be forced to speak spanish which is a good thing! I will be in the day centre so I will be playing with the children.
I am still struggling with the food. Mexicans do not understand the concept of being veggie and eatting a healthy diet. I am living off bread, cheese, yogurt and fruit. We went into our local bar for dinner last week. They speak little english and when we sat down they just brought us loads of food and did not offer us a menu. We had about 4 courses and they kept saying try, try!!!! I did but it was all meat and was yuk! I pretended to eat it and left Emma to eat as much as she could. I did try and explain I was veggie but they kept bringing more meat!!!! I was so hungry, I ended up eatting cereal when I got home. I learnt a valable lesson always ask for the menu, the minute you sit down!!!
Anyway must go, sorry it is abit brief, I want to write more as I am having so many experiences but have homework to do!
