Where I stayed
DAY 2 - had a massive breakfast with Penha and Daisy (Penh's Mom - thankyou) and then went for a drive to see the university and Sao Paolo Futebol Clube
. Then went out for lunch with Penha and her friends Mari and Filipe in Vila Olimpia - had a really juicy steak. Then had pudding at a different place - ate a brigadeiro. Finally, because the pizzas in SP are apparently better than in Italy, we ended the weekend eating pizza and drinking sangria.
DAY 3 - left to fend for ourselves today. Woke up and had a huge breakfast thanks to Penha´s Mom. Then hit Sao Paulo. Took the Metro to Catedral Se and then walked to the Mercado Municipal. There were so many types of fruit, cheese, fish, wine and meat... For lunch had another Italian dish - Mortadella - it was massive, the biggest sandwich ever. Then walked to the museums, but they were closed. Finally we made our way to the bus station and boarded the 8pm bus to Foz do Iguassu overnight, slept okay but the air con was freezing..
DAY 1 - got the 9.40 bus from Paraty to Sao Paulo and arrived at about 4pm at Tiete bus station. Penha picked us up with her friend Mara from the bus station and drove us through Sao Paulo back to her flat down a road with 9 lanes each way - drivers are loco! Penha lives in Vila Madalena where we met her Mom, had some coffee and used the washing machine. After a (hot) shower we went out in Vila Madalena with some of Penha's friends for a few drinks and then we went on to see the Jockey Club. We then went out for a ride around Sao Paulo to see the Christmas lights. Everyone in Sao Paulo seemed to be doing the same and so it was grid lock at 1 am. Saw the big Christmas tree at Ibirapuera and then the lights on Avenue Paulista - felt quite Christmasy for the first time this year. Itau lights were the best!
