Hola all,

Beautiful weather again today. My days start late because I´m still on the other time zone and will realistically stay that way for a while. I am fully rested for the 1st time in what feels like weeks!

Went to the Cemetary de Recoleta which is right around the corner from my apartment and where Eva Peron is buried (among other rich and notable people). It is such an incredily beautiful and haunting place - like a stone villiage for the dead. The crowds are managable and you often find yourself alone among these quiet narrow walkways. It´s a huge maze. The mausoleums are all shapes and sizes and you can walk up and look inside. Some of them have windows that are open so you can poke your head right in. It kind of reminded me of looking inside those nursury rhyme houses at enchanted forest when I was little (mom, dad, Robin will know what I mean). They´re so neat...really peaceful resting places with alters, flowers, etc. for each person or family. Inside them it´s like time is standing still. It´s free to get in and you can just wander around on your own without anyone looking at you or telling you not to touch things, etc. I saw a little grafity but was surprised at how there was relatively little vandalism. There are cats that hang out there - resident graveyard cats. They all hang out together and come cruising up to you. I loved that cemetary and will be sure to try to hit one of the English tours if I´m ever up in time (they are at 11 am!).

I had a gross foreign food experience -nothing too major. I ordered a croissant with cheese and ham and the croissant it came on was carmelized. GROSS! I was starving so I ate it but it reminded me of the time I poured sugar on my pizza instead of parmesan cheese.

A note on the people of B.A. before I go. These people are reserved...It reminds me of England in a way. They are not loud or showy. They speak softly and are refined. I´ve only been in the ritzier parts of the city so far so that may account for it. The keyboard is getting funky so I´m off....

Adios,

M
