11th April 2008
We asked for the cheapest room at the guest house which was 2 quid per night but after spending a scorching night without a fan or AC we thought we would splash out an extra 2 pounds for a one of the good rooms! The owner is so friendly and had even waited for over an hour to meet us when our bus arrived late the night befoe. Ninh Binh is a really small town although it gets a mention on all the main routes down from Hanoi. We definately feel like were in a foriegn country now as not many people can speak english and we really stand out as you dont see many white faces about. The little family restaurants that are set up by the side of the main road are really good and run by some really sweet people. The lady at our favourite stall makes us some really good banana pancakes and noodle soups.
12th April 2008 We decided to make today our last day here as other than the packs of dogs play fighting in the street there isn't a lot to keep us amused. To fill a bit of time I went to one of the barbers who are set up on the pavement by the river. The guy I went to was just starting up for the day so I got to see how they run it. To get power to his little mobile barbers station he went to the tree pulled down a cable and then just poked the two bare wires into a multi-plug socket and he was in business! Considering he didn't have any cutter guides on his clippers he did a pretty good job at giving me a shaved head. He did however go a bit crazy with the cut throat razor and has given me some very sharp lines to my neck hair! Check me out!
