After our long bus journey we arrived in Sydney to be greeted by the smiley faces of Nisha and Becca, and their housemate Nina who we'd never met before but is such a laugh we felt like we knew her as well as the others. We walked back to their house (with a bright pink door!) which is down a gorgeous side street but still slap bang in the middle of town. They showed us around and then we all went to Hyde Park for lunch in the sunshine. Then it was back to theirs for a few glasses of Goon (cheap wine from a box) before heading out to meet their other friends for St Paddy's Day celebrations. We had a really good night in the bars around Sydney but eventually "coach-lag" caught up with us and we had to call it a night.

The girls became our tour guides and took us to Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Opera House and The Botanical Gardens but not before we stumbled accross the St Paddy's Day Parade in the centre of town. We had lunch in the park again and then in the evening Sam was BBQ master back at the house in the garden.

After waving the girls off to work we were on our own and able to go off and do some exploring
18th March 2008
We did the touristy thing again and spent the day wandering around town (Sam has the blisters to prove it!). We found another excellent free art gallery down at circular quay which had lots of old aboriginal bark paintings and a contempory exhibition. After that we walked to Darling Harbour which is an oasis of small cafe's, bars and restaurants tucked away amongst the high rise office blocks.

Today being our last day in Sydney it seemed only right that a trip to Bondi Beach was in order. When we set off for the first time the weather was cloudy but by the time we were eating our picnic on the beach we were basking in the sun once again! We headed back "home" to get ready for our last evening with the girls and met them down at Darling Harbour once they'd finished work and just in time for happy hour! We had a lovely evening of fish and chips by the water and watched the sun go down on Sydney for the last time. Nisha and Becca walked us to the bus station and we said an emotional goodbye as we set off on another night bus!

. We went to the New South Wales Art Gallery where we were completely blown away by an exhibition of work by the students at local high school which outclassed the permanant collections of Australian artists. We had lunch in the park yet again (got to make the most of the sunshine!) and then Sam got a $10 (under 5 pounds) haircut which was completed in about 3 minutes! He felt like a lamb in a shee shearing competitions. That evening we cooked a Mexican banquet ready for the workers which went down very well.18th March 2008
