We drove from Taupo to Napier stopping off for a trip to Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. This place is the geography teacher's equivalant of a trip to disneyland! There's every type of crazy volcanic action including an erupting geyser (or big geezers as we like to call them). There was bubbling mud, steaming eggyholes and everything was somehow a creation of the devil, eg, The Devils Armpit, Satans Hole etc. Very strange!

Arriving in Napier was a bit like going to a film set. In the 30's they had a massive earthquake which practically destroyed the whole town and it was all rebuilt art deco style. We stayed at Wally's backpackers which was two restored victorian villas run by an english family.
