Ok, not really alot happening here. Getting to Greymouth was mostly about making the mega long drive to actually get over to the west coast to start our real adventure!! But we did start a little bit of sightseeing on our way down here!! We drove from Nelson over to Westport, and stopped to have lunch. Then we set off on our west coast adventure. we decided to spend the night in Greymouth, and on the way down there we could stop of to see the punakaiki, or pancake rocks. When we reached Punakaiki, we went off to see what we thought were the pancake rocks. We set of on the little walk that you needed to do to reach them and the sights at the end were quite spectacular. The weather was a little grey, but you could see all along the rugged coastline and there was a little blowhole where the sea water got pushed up through the rocks and blown out of the top. At the time we didn't realise that this wasn't the pancake rocks, and we were a little dissapointed as we were expecting it to be so much bigger. But at least we'd seen some beautiful scenery, and we headed off back to the car. It was only once we'd drive 5 minutes down the road that we realised we'd been to the wrong place!!! However, it didn't matter-it just meant we had something to compare it to, and loads more photos to show you guys!!! Anyway, the rocks are basically big pillars of limestone and sandstone that are layered, and look like big stacks of pancakes. There are also some awesome blowholes here at high tide, but guess what-we got there at low tide, haha!!!
Anyway, the sights were still amazing, and i really hope that the pictures come out on the website. If not, you'll get to see them when we get home!!
After we'd seen all of the rock formations along this little stretch of coast, we headed on down to Greymouth. Hmm, Greymouth. Really nothing to see when we were her, the weather was grey and dismal and it really didn't seem that great. so we had dinner and went to see Narnia at the cinema, which was actually pretty cool-although i cried like a right girl watching it!!! If you get to see it, check out the scenery as it was filmed in New Zealand and it shows pretty much exactly what it looks like!!! Once the film finished we headed back to our hostel and got up early the next morning to continue the adventure!!! More thumbnails ...
